Studio Fifty Floor

Michael Whitehead

Acrylic and oil on Linen

205 x 285

Influenced by Andy Warhol and The Factory artists and recently inspired by art sensation Banksy, Michael Whitehead decided to trace the making of his latest exhibition.

This work on linen began life as a covering on his studio floor during the painting of his Howling Wind exhibition series in late 2012.  Containing splashes and dashes from his exhibition paintings, he also deliberately added to the work while standing and walking on it over the many months it lay there. After completing the exhibition pieces, he stretched the linen and then went to work with the final layers and details.  The result is a highly original, innovative piece that will keep you intrigued for years.

In a nod to the favourite playground of The Factory artists, Michael has titled the work Studio Fifty-Floor
